Unibox was recently given some “Cortex love” on the always interesting and ever informative podcast, Cortex. Hosted by CGP Grey of “Humans Need Not Apply” fame and RelayFM's Myke Hurley, Cortex explores the hosts' favorite methods and tools for increasing productivity and fostering creativity. We were thrilled to listen in to episode #29 and hear their thoughts on Unibox, the app that tackles the never ending wheel known as email. It was especially cool to hear that CGP has never used an email app that he was so immediately happy with outside of Apple’s own Mail client for iOS. And, as we want to continue adapting Unibox to be the best email app out there, we're sending out some tips and additional comments around their conversation for our both their listeners and our users to max out their experience.

Listen to Episode #29: Dvorak in its entirety and make sure to check out when they discuss Unibox at the 45:19 mark.

Today, a little more than two years after we released Unibox for Mac, we're proud to announce Unibox for iPhone and iPad!

While we kept most of the core design of Unibox for Mac, we rebuilt the user interface to make optimal use of screen sizes and touch interactions on iPhone and iPad.

Almost all actions like deleting, replying, forwarding and starring are available via swipe gestures. You can freely assign actions to swipe gestures to optimize your workflow.

We hope you enjoy it! Get it here: https://itunes.apple.com/app/unibox/id933879046.

Many of you have notified us that the current public version of Unibox doesn't work properly with the first developer preview of OS X 10.11 (El Capitan). We are not sure if this will be fixed in a later update of OS X, but for now we added a workaround to the latest beta version of Unibox that you can use if you are already running El Capitan. Please let us know if you still experience any issues.

The response to our first public beta has been simply awesome. The two most requested features were alias support and a way to display threads. Initially both of these features were planned to be part of an early update after the AppStore release, but your feedback convinced us to revise our schedule. Todays beta contains alias support and the first part of our thread integration, along with several other improvements and bugfixes:

  • Printing
  • Simpler keyboard shortcuts (e.g., delete with backspace)
  • Localizations: German, English, French, Spanish
  • Redesigned message buttons
  • Activity window
  • 12 hour time support
  • Images in Signature
  • Spell Checker Improvements
  • Better support for iCloud and outlook.com
  • HTML image blocking support
  • Setting to disable confirm dialog for deleting or moving multiple messages

If you are already registered you can get the update at https://www.uniboxapp.com/beta/start. Otherwise sign up at https://www.uniboxapp.com/beta.

We are blown away by the response to the public beta release, and we would like to thank you all for your great feedback and suggestions. Unfortunately we are getting so many requests that it will take some time to answer them all. In order to answer the most frequent ones we decided to put up a dedicated FAQ section on our website. We started with a few of the most common issues and will extend the list over the next days and weeks.

We are excited to announce that we just started the public beta. After sign up you will now get direct access to the latest version. We already emptied the queue of beta registrations last week, so if you registered and haven't received an invite yet, please check your spam folder or contact us. More announcements coming soon!

TUE, 27 AUG 2013 BY UNIBOX TEAM

We've already sent out a lot of beta invitations and received great feedback so far. Since we needed to address a few issues like better Mavericks compatibility, improved Gmail integration and optimized IMAP syncing, we decided to postpone sending out new invitations until we've finished the next beta version. Once we've completed our internal testing we'll give access to this beta to all people that have registered. If all goes well this will be during the first week of September. Thanks for your patience!

We are excited to announce the first private beta for Unibox, the people-centric approach to email on the Mac. It took us much longer than expected, but we are finally ready to seed early versions of the app to a limited number of people. We'll add increasing numbers of testers over the course of the next weeks, starting in a few days with the first batch. Sign up here to be one of the first Unibox users.
